Krista Jo Mustain, of PRINT PARTY, is a fiber artist and textile enthusiast who specializes in hand-dyed quilts for people who are serious about fun.
Growing up in Spring Hill, Kansas, Krista split her time between building forts for her dogs, riding horses, and rollerskating to Whitney Houston. She attended The University of Kansas where she discovered the mystical 5th floor of the Art and Design building, and redesigned the board game classic, "N*Sync Backstage Pass". She quickly developed a passion for hand-dyeing quilts and felting rugs. These were the years where she practiced the fine art of throwing themed parties and making the perfect sno cone.
After received her Bachelor of Fine Art in Textile Design with a Minor in Art History, Krista moved to Kansas City where she had a studio residency at The Katz Drugstore and further developed her obsession with covering every surface in head to toe pattern. During this time she focused on hand dyeing quilts and wall-hangings inspired by her love of 80's graffiti and her vivid video game-esque dreams. In 2015 she was awarded a grant through Art in The Loop to cover a Kansas City Metro bus stop in vinyl renderings of her quilts and hand cut confetti. And after installing two beds and a pom pom chandelier in a solo show at her Alma Mater, Mustain relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she has realized a love for painting murals. Having participated in the 2017 Habit Mural Festival, she then painted a mural in The Living Arts Contemporary Gallery as a part of her installation Sommersault.
PRINT PARTY is the celebration of traditional textiles techniques, executed in unexpected colors and patterns, for people who are serious about fun. The process starts with 100% unbleached cotton and color inspiration from very vivid dreams. PRINT PARTY is bold and bright; layering colors over each other and bringing to the surface pattern combinations that are often unexpected. All PRINT PARTY products are 100% hand-dyed or hand-painted with Procion MX Fiber Reactive dye, made with love and machine quilted in Tulsa, OK. As they are hand-dyed, no two PRINT PARTY products will be the same. With each piece you are truly able to live in your own personal PRINT PARTY unlike anyone else!
